Botox for chronic migraine,
treated precisely.

At a glance

Botox is an FDA-approved preventive treatment for chronic migraine, delivered through small injections as part of a broader, diagnosis-led headache care plan. Institute of Function starts with diagnosis and the least invasive effective headache plan, considering injections only when assessment supports them alongside appropriate preventive care. Dr. Benjamin (Ben) Klyachman, D.O., board-certified in pain medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation, leads care at Institute of Function in Nassau County, NY, which welcomes patients from across Long Island, New York City and beyond.

Botox is FDA approved for the prevention of chronic migraine, defined as 15 or more headache days a month. In our Nassau County practice it is offered within a broader headache plan that includes medication review, lifestyle and trigger work, and nerve-targeted options where appropriate.

Who it is for

Botox for migraine is intended for people with chronic migraine, meaning headache on 15 or more days each month, with migraine features on at least eight of them. It is not a treatment for occasional headaches or episodic migraine, and an accurate diagnosis comes first.

What the visit is like

Treatment involves a series of small injections across defined sites of the forehead, temples, back of the head, neck and shoulders. The visit typically takes under half an hour in our office, and most people return to normal activity the same day.

Treatment interval and expectations

Treatment is repeated about every twelve weeks, and benefit is often judged after two treatment cycles. Not everyone responds, and no outcome is promised; response is reviewed honestly at each visit and the plan is adjusted when needed.

Part of a broader plan

Botox is rarely the whole answer. Preventive medication review, attention to medication overuse, sleep, trigger and lifestyle work, and occipital nerve blocks for selected nerve pain patterns are considered alongside it, with neurology coordination when the picture calls for it.
